Monday Madness – Beware Chalkboard Plaque, DIY Halloween Chalkboard Art.

We introduced our first Chalkboard Art Plaque clear back in April when we were getting ready for Snap.  We almost didn’t do them, chalk board art is so prevalent online and there is some seriously cute stuff.  I really just wasn’t sure if anyone would be interested in one more print.  Problem was I would lay in bed at night and all of these designs would float around in my head…keeping me up way too late, so I finally decided what the heck.  Now all these months later here we… almost nine chalkboard prints later.  It’s been fun to see the huge response. Turns out there a quite a few of us that like the look, but don’t have the ability to draw our own.  By offering our chalkboard art as an inexpensive project we’ve made it easy for people to copy the look without the hassle.  That along with the simplicity of the project has made it one of this years hottest Super Saturday projects.

DIY Shaped Portait Frames Ideas and Tutorials – PART II

frame-painting-tutorial-DIY-shaped-portrait-frames_edited-1

First sorry to ya all that the schedule for this weeks blog post has been is a little off. . . I mean seriously no Monday Madness what so ever. . . .what the heck is that all about?  I apologize, summer just might be like that.  Having all the kids home makes things a little hectic and besides I don’t want their memories of summer 2013 to be of their mom sitting in front of the computer 24/7…seriously they are getting old enough that I have to start thinking about these things  (;

Lucky for you I have anticipated this chaos (at least to some degree) and am slightly prepared.  I do have several post ready to show off to the world that you will hopefully enjoy.  Like this one, Part II in the Frame Painting Ideas and Tutorials series.  Part I was posted last Friday.

DIY Frame Painting Tutorials and Ideas - Part 1 – The Traditional Paint and Antique Method

You would not believe the number of the emails I get asking questions about our {Step it Up Frame Gallery}. Everyone wants to know what paint colors I used, how I painted each frame and how to purchase the stencils. FINALLY after months of promises I have written down everything you could possibly want to know about painting the frames in our {Step it Up Gallery}. There is a lot to explain so I am going to make this a four part series with a tutorial for a different method in each post. I will post them every Friday for the next four weeks. ENJOY

Monday Madness – Chalk Board Plaques

Happy Memorial Day!
If you keep up with trends and read blogs then you’ve seen Chalkboard prints…they are everywhere.  I have to admit I am kind of infatuated with them.  I love the throw back to antique signs and marketing designs that are usually mixed in with newer fonts and elements.  Plus they are super fun to design.
We are excited to introduce a new project….a line of chalkboard prints.  The prints can be purchased on their own, or as a kit.  The kits include a plaque of wood to mount the print on, as well as step by step instructions.  When I made mine I added some Texturizing Cream to the top layer.

The best part about this project though is that we will also be offering the prints as free printables. The Spring Chalk Board printable is already online ready to go.  If you looking for fast (and still pretty dang affordable} the Spring Chalk Board plaque kit can also be purchase online for only $7.95.

Monday Madness – Life is Beautiful Home Accent Vinyl 50% off

Adding different shapes into your decor can be a clever way to add some variation.  Circles just happen to be one of my favorite shapes to play with.  You may not realize it, but I bet you love circles too, just think about it . . .clocks, wreaths, pancakes, what’s not to love?  Am I right?

Today’s Monday Madness offers another unique way to take a step away from the standard rectangle and square shaped vinyl sayings and add some diversity to your walls with a circle shaped design.  With a design that just happens to be one of my all time favorite sayings “Life is Beautiful”. (The perks of being the designer…you can use things you love). This vinyl piece is offered in beige, black, charcoal, and chocolate.  Of course we can always cut custom colors upon request.  It is 18” in diameter.

LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL VINYL - – Reg priced at $16.95, sale price $8.47.

Monday Madness – 60% off Chalk Board Vinyl Shapes {Carson and Eleanor}

It was fun to see how much everyone loved the Chalk board vinyl Robots and Doll Houses.  Because they were so widely popular we thought we would just keep with the Chalk Board Vinyl theme going and extend this weeks weekly deal to the Carson and Eleanor shaped Chalk Board Vinyl.

Guest Post - DIY Spring Frame Using Spring Subway Art

Hey Poppy Seed fans! I'm Megan from Crafter Club
I am SO beyond excited to be over here at Poppy Seed projects today! How adorable is their stuff?

I LOVE the wacky frames that are so 'in' right now, don't you? There are so many things that you can do with them, not just use them as a frame. I wanted to switch it up a tad with my frame, a bright idea came to me one day to subway art a frame! That way that I could use it as a frame still, yet it gives me the look of subway art that I LOVE. Perfect, right?! I ordered my frame and vinyl, and it was shipped to me super fast.

Monday Madness – Home Accent Vinyl Decal – ON SALE for 60% off.

I am pretty sure I have mentioned this before, but just incase, I LOVE vanilla coke…oh wait sorry we are talking about vinyl.  I love designing vinyl.  I also love decorating with vinyl.  It is such an inexpensive way to add personal touches to your home.  The only trick is to not go over board…you don’t want your walls to look like a book threw up on them.  A saying here or there though can really add to any room.

The vinyl in the picture above was first designed as an option to personalize one of our Dry Erase Calendars (part of the Organize It collection).  Below are a few of the other options we have available.

BUILDING A HOUSE - WHAT THEY DON'T TELL YOU

We are building a house.  It turns out that building is not as much fun as it sounds.  Some of it is fun, and we are super grateful to be able to be doing it.  And I'm sure once its over it'll all be worth it.  But right now we are smack dab in the middle of it, and some days I can't help but want to rewind back to our old house and never, eeeeeever, EVER even think about moving anywhere else - ever again.  Is this how everybody feels while building/moving, or is it just me?

The thing with building is that if you haven't ever done it before, it sounds like this awesome adventure.  Kind of like going to the zoo in the middle of summer with your kids - it sounds like it will be so fun... before you get there. But it turns out that the zoo is hot and smelly in the summer, the kids are grouchy and sunburned after an hour, the guy in front of you on the carousel has some serious B.O., and you are wondering how you could have possibly volunteered to leave your air conditioned house to come here.  Yep, that pretty much sums it up for me up to this point.  Let me give you a better idea of what I'm talking about.

Building in the winter = plan on a little bit slower time frame, due to weather, etc.

{picture this covered with a foot of snow}

Building this winter with record freezing temps and record snow fall = your hole and foundation walls sitting for TWO. SOLID. MONTHS.

Living in a rental house for 4-6 months with most of your stuff packed away in boxes = totally doable, right?

Living in a rental house for what turns into 9+ months with stuff you suddenly NEED packed away in boxes, and then having the basement (where 90% of the boxes are, of course) FLOOD = kind of sucky.

Thinking and dreaming and pinning your little heart out while you plan things like gorgeous lighting, solid hardwood, and marble counter tops = so much fun (and too many late nights on Pinterest).

{source: decor pad}

Finding out that your budget and builder allowances cover about 1/4th of what you would actually like to do = cold, hard reality check (Marble costs HOW MUCH? And it stains?! The Pottery Barn light fixture I love would take up HALF of my lighting allowance?!  Yikes.  You get the picture).

Princess Birthday Party Freebies and Templates

As promised here are the freebies and templates from Ellie’s Princess Birthday Party.

Below each picture is a link to down load the freebies. The downloads of course won’t be personalized and won’t have the Poppy Seed logo on them. The only thing that I ask is that you please, be courteous of both my time and ideas and only use freebies for your own personal use.

First the invites.  Once MPIX delivered these little babies all I did was add the little Crystal to the wheels.  It was simple enough that Ellie could help, which she loved of course.

Here’s the actual pick of the invite.  You’ve seen the front side….

Ellie’s Princess Birthday Party!!

Baby girl turned four last Saturday!  We had seven little girls and two little boys (my two nephews that are Ellie’s age) over for a princess luncheon.

I apologize ahead of time for the crappy pictures.  My good camera had a dead battery so I had to resort to the older not so clear and crisp camera.  *SIGH* That was a lot work to not have amazing pictures to show off.

We started things about 10 days before the party by passing out the invites.

Ellie's $th B-day Invitefor blog
{Freebie template coming soon!}

Now before I go any further I have a confession.  I. . .  Holly Marie Archuleta, am NOT a good party planner.

I am not detail oriented.

Frosting will not bend to my will. . .my cakes typically look more like mud slides.

I may or may not have issues with time management.

So before I even got started I studied, and I do mean literally studied, the amazing parties that Jamie and Brooke from The Crafting Chicks have thrown their girls.

Those two know how to throw some serious weddings . . .I mean birthday parties.

I do however know how to entertain children.  That I can do.  When I was online I found LOTS of ideas for decorations, the cake ect., but really nothing on how to throw a party with a good flow, activities and the like. So, I thought I would go into a little detail about what we did along with some tips on how to keep things running smoothly.

Plus a few decoration and food ideas.

Guest Post - Pallet Wood Frame Tutorial

Guest Post-Pallet Wood Frame Tutorial

Hi there!!  My name is Lacy Horrocks and I am so excited to be a guest on Poppy Seed Projects today!!  I am joining you from Star Valley Wyoming and although the summers are beautiful here, the winters are LONG and COLD!  I choose to fill them with scrapbooking, crafting and laundry...lots of laundry!

I have a new obsession with "upcycling"... finding old things and making them beautiful! So you should not be surprised that I LOVE pallets and the many projects that can be made with them! I had been in love with these frames from The Savy Photographer for a while and when I saw the cute frames that Poppy Seed Projects had, I knew what I was going to do!

Guest Post - Kitchen Art Work

Hello everyone!

I’m Sumo, or Summer if you wanna get formal.

profile

I blog over at Sumo’s Sweet Stuff.

Button1

It’s my little place in the blogging world where you can come to find sewing and crafting inspiration. Sewing is my favorite creative outlet, but I’m not afraid to bust out the Mod Podge and paint when the mood strikes. You might also catch me professing my love of Target (or the popcorn store as we call it), talking about my relationships with Lucy (Cameo) and Veronica (sewing machine), or bragging about my three beautiful girls. I have an extreme fondness for Diet Coke, my minivan, historical fiction, and most sweets.

I am so excited to be sharing my project over here today. I was just thrilled for the opportunity to get creative with some products from Poppy Seed Projects! We just moved into a brand new house about a month ago, so this came along at the perfect time!

My dining room was really lacking, so I decided to make these fun dining room art pieces.
