Monday Madness – DIY Doll Bed 30% Off and DIY Doll Bedding Tutorials

We always try to put the Doll Bed on sale at least once before Christmas so we figured now was the perfect time, at least perfect for all of you ladies who are super prepared and already working on Christmas.  Really even those of who aren’t typically that on top of it have to be thinking ahead a little more than usual, because you do realize that this year since Thanksgiving is so late there is an abnormally short time period between Christmas and Thanksgiving?  Oh the insanity.

This weeks Monday Madness is the Poppy Seed Doll Bed  for 30% off.  And yes the bed fits all 18-19” dolls, including the American Girl dolls.

Reg Price: $21.95, this week $15.36 (with use of coupon code).  Available in store and online.

Guest Post - How to Add a Ruffle Skirt to a Doll Bed

Hello! I'm happy to be back here at Poppy Seed Projects Blog! My name is Rachel and I blog at R & R Workshop.

My daughter just turned 2 and loves dolls. This doll bed from Poppy Seed is the perfect gift idea if you have a little girl at your house! You can't beat the price and it is so sturdy. I like that it can fit any size doll up to 18 inches. You can also be creative and decorate it anyway you want. I chose to keep the bed a simple white and add a little glitter to add a little fun :)

Craft Camp – Tues. July 23rd Scrapbook Paper Silhouettes

I know it is very last minute, but if you don’t have any plans join us this Tues at 10:30 at the store in Sandy for our 3rd class of Craft Camp.  We will be making the fun project shown below.
super saturday craft idea - scrapbook silhouettes
I did a test run with my kids and they seriously LOVED this project.
it was messy and fun…what more can a kid want?
Kids craft - scrapbook paper sihouettes

I actually like how these turned out so much that I am totally planning on whipping out some of my own (with some slightly different shapes, I am thinking holidays, possibly some for Ellie’s room).
On the website we have it listed as Stars and Stripes, but my kids weren’t too excited about the star idea, so I whipped out a spider for the boys to go with the spooky halloween paper they choose and a butterfly for the girl.  Besides the spider and butterfly shown we will also have a rocket, a train, an owl, and a heart for kids to choose from.
kids craft scrapbook paper silhouettes
The class is designed to be fun for all ages.  Registration is six dollars per kids, but if you register more than one child, or a child for more than one class it drops to five.  For kids three and under we do ask that Mom stays to help.  Oh and to make things fun for Mom we do hand out coupons good for 30% off one item. (Excludes Temple Picture, Family Portraits and Clocks).
For all of those who can’t join us, because you live to far way (because I know that is the only reason you wouldn’t be coming) don’t be to sad, next week I will post a tutorial and  list this fun project online as kit so you can make the craft at home!  It’s a perfect use for all those scraps of beautiful paper you haven’t been able to part with.
See you Tues!

Guest Post - American Girl Doll Bed and Bedding Tutorial

Doll-bedding-for-Poppy-Seed
I was so excited when I found out that Poppy Seed Projects was going to start making doll beds that fit American Girl Dolls. As a mother of 3 girls, (and 3 American Girl dolls), I knew that these were going to be a hit at my house!
For weeks my two oldest begged me to begin their beds. I put it off, cause if I'm honest, I have to gear up for sewing. Not that this project is super hard, but I have to get myself to a special mental place where I can be a nice mom, but still focus and concentrate. I'm not a mom that can sew with the girls hanging on me.
Once I had my mental faculties in check, I got my cute fabric from Riley Blake Designs and got to sewing. I followed a lot of the fun cute ideas that Crafting Chick Jamie shared in her post about doll bedding. I'll give a little more step by step in this post. I had so much fun and forgot how much I love sewing.
Ready to start? Here's what you'll need.

Monday Madness – Chalk Board Robot and Doll House, SUPER CHEAP!

I spent the last week putting the final touches on my boys room.  I can’t wait to share the finished project with you.  My good friend Home By Heidi is featuring the room as one of her favorite kids rooms ever.  Coming from Heidi that is a huge compliment.  Until all the pictures are taken and final details completed I thought I would share one of my favorite parts of their room.  These chalk board robots.

Princess Birthday Party Freebies and Templates

As promised here are the freebies and templates from Ellie’s Princess Birthday Party.

Below each picture is a link to down load the freebies. The downloads of course won’t be personalized and won’t have the Poppy Seed logo on them. The only thing that I ask is that you please, be courteous of both my time and ideas and only use freebies for your own personal use.

First the invites.  Once MPIX delivered these little babies all I did was add the little Crystal to the wheels.  It was simple enough that Ellie could help, which she loved of course.

Here’s the actual pick of the invite.  You’ve seen the front side….

Spiderman Birthday Party FREEBIE

My oldest turns seven  (SEVEN?!) next week.  I'm trying to wrap my head around that and plan his birthday party at the same time.

This kid is IN LOVE with birthdays.  His birthday, someone else's birthday, it doesn't matter, he has always had a big thing for birthdays.  Here is my proof (excuse me while I go cry my eyes out because I swear he was this little  5 minutes ago):

Guest Post - Super Cute Super Saturday Ideas

Hi Poppy Seed followers.  My name is Adrienne and I am the blogger behind Free Time Frolics. I am so excited to be here with you at Poppy Seed Projects.  Thanks Holly for having me.  Today I will be sharing a few projects for Super Saturday Ideas or Gift for you to make for your own friends and family.

1. I Love to see The Temple

I had this one in mind for my daughter.  It would make a great gift for that special Little Miss in your life. I was going to wait for Christmas to give my Little Miss hers but she saw it and fell in love.  Her favorite song to sing is I Love to See the Temple.  We sing it every night.

Top Ten Tips for Camping with Kids.

2012-06-15 14.33.552012-06-03 19.50.322012-06-15 15.09.20

Although crafting is pretty dang important, every once in awhile we would like to encourage you to take a break.  Tonight is one of those nights.

A couple of weeks ago my family and I were getting ready to leave to go on a camping trip. . . our first with a small baby.  I posted on our FB page asking for any tips and got a GREAT response.  One of those responses came from Valerie.  (I know she’s gorgeous right!)

Valarie use to teach for Poppy Seed, but is taking a little hiatus while she attends nursing school.  She is married to a wonderful man named Jeff, they have four kids ranging from 6-15 and LOVE to camp, hilton style in their trailer, BUT have also braved mother nature to backpack their way into some of the farthest regions of our beautiful mountains.  In her owns words, “Camping with kids can be a nightmare or a happy time to bond as a family. You choose… it’s all in your attitude.”

SUPER FUN SUMMER - FREE PRINTABLE

I don't know about the rest of you, but by the time school has been out for a few weeks my kids start to get BORED if I don't have things planned for them to do.  Trying to avoid that this year, I came up with a plan.  I decided to assign a specific activity to each day of the week.  My cute friend (and super fun mom) Hillary did this last year with her kids and let me borrow her names for each day of the week.

Here is our summer schedule, day by day:

Father's Day Freebie - Office Snack Labels

This year my husband decided to take care of his own Father's Day present a couple of weeks early.  He needed something for his mountain bike, and that was fine with me! Even though he bought his actual gift, I still want to do some things on Sunday to make him feel special and let him know how much I appreciate the kind of dad he is every day of the year.  Since we're in the middle of moving, I had three basic requirements:

1.  Cheap (he already bought his real present)
2.  Easy (like, "the kids need to be able to do most of it while I pack up the kitchen" kind of easy)
3.  Handmade (in a manly sort of way - he doesn't care about baker's twine and cute scrapbook paper)

LAST MINUTE TEACHER GIFT

I had big plans this year to make a cute craft for my boys' teachers as an end of the year thank you gift.  That shouldn't have been too hard, since HELLO - I happen to have access to lots of craft supplies.  I've done it before, and it has always been a big hit.  But this year the week got away from me (that is not a surprise lately) and the day before school ended I decided to bag the craft and do a cute gift card instead.  Well then the DAY got away from me (are you sensing a pattern here? Ha!) and I was going to pick the gift cards up that night.  By the time we had dinner with cousins from out of town and the final tee-ball game of the season, and then a last minute cousin sleepover - the gift card idea got pushed to the wayside.  So after getting 6 children to sleep (or at least quiet) in our basement, I started looking around my house for a treat I could make the teachers instead.  Since it was 11 o'clock, this needed to be a quick treat.  What is the quickest treat out there?

Rice Krispies!  Okay, I know what you're thinking.  Rice Krispie Treats -super lame.  But if you're thinking that YOU.ARE.WRONG.  Because these are not just any Rice Krispie Treats.  These are crazy-yummy, hide them from the kids, eat half the pan all by yourself Rice Krispie Treats.  If you don't believe me, you need to try them - they will change your life!  Okay, maybe they won't change your life, but they are really good.  Its the combo of the brown butter (gives them kind of a carmel-y taste) and the sea salt.  And it may or may not call for DOUBLE the amount of butter as traditional Rice Krispies - that could have a little something to do with it.
Once they were done we boxed them up in some cute little gable boxes from Poppy Seed, attached the label to the front with a glue stick, and tied the recipe (printed on cardstock) to the box.  The recipe was personalized by having my boys sign the bottom 'from the kitchen of' part.  Super cute, easy, and cheap!

Teacher Appreciation Freebies

Well just to show how self absorbed I can be I just figured that since my kids don’t get out of school until after Memorial Day, that nobody else did either.  I did also take my sisters kids into consideration when I made that assumption, they are on year round and aren’t out until July.  So I apologize that this is a little late for many of you, but here is a short list of freebies that we have listed on the blog for teachers.

Kids Craft Tutorial–Darling Fridge Magnets

Okay so I actually meant to post this before Mother’s Day because it makes such a cute gift for Grandma, I even made my family wait in the car while I finished editing it before we left for Disney Land, BUT than I scheduled it to post on the wrong day!  Pretty awsome of me.  It’s still a fun craft to make with the kids though.

I took my kids into the store and let each of them choose on of our miniature frames.

The frames fit a wallet size picture.

Than I let my kids paint their little hearts out (one of their favorite things to do).

Lehi’s Dream Memory Game–FHE Freebie

At the beginning of this year I was called to teach the 8-9 year old primary class in my ward.  I know this may seem strange to some, but I have always wanted to be a primary teacher, even begged a couple of time, so I was excited for the calling.

One of our first lessons was on Lehi’s dream.   I made this little memory game for my class to play, (based on lesson 4 in the Primary 4 lesson manual.)  When one of the kids found a match we stopped to read the scriptures on the cards.  It worked surprisingly well and not only taught them the basics of Lehi’s dream, but also helped them understand what a symbol is and how it “mean” something else.  I liked the way it worked so well that we have since also used it for an FHE lesson.

To make it possible to have three rows of four I threw in one extra set of cards, the Book of Mormon cards.

HOPE YOU ENJOY!

FREE Baptism Print

I posted these awhile back to use as frames for a child’s baptism day.  I have had several emails asking for the print with out the frame.  So many fun things you could do with just  the print.  Please if you use it for something cute and creative send me a pic. at the orders@poppyseedprojects.com email address.

Here’s what the originals looked like.

You Bring Color to My Life- Free Down load

Found this tutorial on pinterest.  LOVED the idea.  So the kids and I made some for their class mates the other night.  I learned a few helpful tricks along the way and since the little circles shown in the picture were no where to be found I made my own free down load.

Ellie Girl’s Room

We had to play musical rooms to get everyone situated in the right place so the baby could take over the nursery.  We still have a long ways to go, but here’s the beginning stages of Ellie’s room.
Since she’s our only girl and won’t have to share a room we bought Ellie a full bed.  Ryan than added the wanes coating wall behind the bed and we painted the room pink (of course).  I am actually still not sure how I feel about the pink.  LOVE the shade, but it is A LOT of pink.

Valentine’s Projects

I LOVE Valentines.  Always have, even in high school.  The reason has 100% to do with my Dad.  From the time I was a little girl he has always bought me candy, flowers and a card that her wrote a little love letter in each year.  I have saved everyone of those letters since I was five.  Each year I pull the box that keep them in and read through the stack of cards.  Since my Dad passed away eleven years ago you can only imagine how much that means to me. (:
This Valentine’s we have added a couple of new projects, as well as vamped up some of tried and true.  Several of these projects were designed to not only be cute décor. but to also make great gifts.  To view all of our products click HERE, than scroll to the bottom of the page.
We have all of our Valentine’s projects in stock ready for shipping, as well as ready for immediate purchase at the store in Sandy.

Show and Tell

Over the last couple of weeks we have been making crafts like crazy to use as displays for the store.  After awhile you start to get board of doing the same old things.  Soooo we started to get a little creative.  Here’s some of my favorites.
Kim made this Home Sweet Home block, but instead of glazing the bead board she flipped it over and used the smooth side to adhere scrapbook paper to.DSC_0963
We decided we needed a wider variety of vinyl options for the Child of God plaque.  So we added chocolate and hot pink option for the names, and white and beige for the overlays.  Love the idea of sticking the plaque inside a wreath.

Kim also made these darling back to school count down blocks.
